My immediate introduction to the practice of Psychology was from a Humantic perspective which is why I studied under a Holistic Studies Dept while in my Masters program. When I sit with a client I take an integral look at the whole person: their body and health, their mind and its struggles, and finally their spirit or outlook on life. I find this the most effective way to thoroughly see a client in their whole self and be helpful to them. Even though over the years I dip into an eclectic pool of theories, specialties, and modalities, I would enthusiastically say I am a solid blend of Solution-Focused and Humanistic skills. When things in life are a bit off, I vigorously bring attention to what IS working and gratitude. This is an example of a Solution-Focused technique.
I take a gentle but direct approach with clients. I could never be characterized as one of those blank slate therapists that doesn’t say much. I am an interactive therapist, a guide to your healing and nurturing your better self. While listening is effective, so is the consideration of Motivational Interviewing and Empowerment techniques to implement positive change. I am a relational therapist who utilizes a Solution-Focused approach to counseling where with the client’s commitment and our diligent work, results happen.
I also have in-depth experience coaching parents and their children with a Cognitive-Behavioral approach looking at where we reward our children or significant others for unwanted behaviors. I have worked in families’ homes coaching them in the moments where they repeatedly struggle with unwanted behaviors within their home.
